The Regional Impact of Tourism Development in the Amhara Region of Ethiopia.
Abstract
Tourism industry is one of the industries that has global dimension in its operation and delivery, even before globalization concept came to the fore front of academic discourse in the 1990s. Tourism is an international commodity which draws its patronage from the global market. The regional economic impact of Direct Foreign Expenditure (DFE) of tourists at a tourist destination has the potential of generating a quantum of multiplier effect in the regional economy of a country. This paper examined the economic impact of direct foreign expenditure of tourists within Amhara region of Ethiopia, to project the linkages between globalization and regional economic development through tourism.
